On Saturday August 22, 2008 in Sedro Woolley, Wa., many devotees of Lord
Krsna celebrated with pomp, gusto, and much enthusiasm the Divine
appearance of Bhagavan Sri Krsna. Every year we do this festival, and every year
it is the same, but different, than the precious ones. Many devotees travel
great distances to come to this transcendental event, from California, to New
Jersey, Oregon, and local ones in Washington.
We opened the program , actually hours earlier than planned with continuous
kirtan, starting with myself, for an hour or so, then Sukadev took over while I
entered the temple room extension--Srimati Radharani's kitchen to get
things going in there. It is always a very enlivening experience to enter a
temple of Krsna with kirtan going on and hear the Holy Names of God being sung,
to smell the incense offered there, and to see the Deities lavishly decorated.
To take Darshan of this experience is the real food for the soul.
The evening's program began with the first arotik, followed by some
announcements, then a wonderful poem to background music by Anubhavananda
prabhu, then a bhajan "Bhaja hunre mana" , the explanation, and some
discussion of the philosophy in a class by Sukadev prabhu, then we did an
Abhisek , along with kirtan, of several of our Deites and some who traveled
here, then we opened a whole array of presents given for this occasion. The
Lords received 4 new flower vases of two different shapes, incenses, a new
Luglo baby Krsna Deity, a very very beautiful new turban for our Saksi
Gopal Salagram Deity, and Jitarati prabhu from Hong Kong, sent us several boxes
crammed full of the two kinds of lotus feet of Srila Prabhupada, along with
Srila Prabhupada murtis,with two sets of clothes each, some boxes of new Gaura Nitai
Deities, and a very beautiful changing bodies exibit-most excellent for
preaching Krsna Consciousness during street book distribution or even in one's
office/home. After all this excitement of opening presents, we offered Krsna the
final arotik which was followed with pushpa puja. Then the FEAST.
All in all, a wonderful night, filled with Krsna bhakti.
